The Media Council for Self-Regulation received a complaint from Stevan Simijanović regarding the manner in which several Montenegrin media reported on the criminal proceedings against him.
In the part of the complaint that refers to the Luča portal, the applicant cited the text "Medojević claims Simijanović was an operative of the US ambassador Brownback", published on May 4, 2021, emphasizing that in this case, according to his assessment, the professional and ethical standards of journalism were violated.
Acting on the complaint, the Media Council for Self-Regulation determined that the Luča portal is not a member of the Media Council for Self-Regulation, and that the Council, in accordance with its mandate, is not competent to consider complaints related to the reporting of that media.
It was explained to the complainant that in such cases it is recommended to directly address the newsroom or other available internal mechanisms of that media. The Media Council for Self-Regulation, within its capabilities, tried to find the required contacts for Portal Luča, but was unable to find them, and informed the complainant about this.
