The Media Council for Self-Regulation received a complaint from Stevan Simijanović regarding the manner in which several Montenegrin media reported on the criminal proceedings against him.
In the complaint, among other things, the text "Who is Stevan Simijanović?", published on the portal of public broadcaster Radio and Television of Montenegro (RTCG) on September 21, 2021, it is cited. The complainant states that professional and ethical standards were violated in this case as well, especially in terms of the way his case was presented to the public.
Acting on the complaint, the Media Council for Self-Regulation informed the applicant that RTCG is not a member of the Media Council for Self-Regulation, and that the Council does not have the authority to consider complaints related to the program content of the public service.
It was explained to the complainant that RTCG has an established internal mechanism for dealing with complaints from viewers and listeners, including the ombudsman institution, and that possible objections to the program contents can be sent through that channel.
To this end, the Media Council for Self-Regulation provided the complainant with the contact information of the competent RTCG ombudsman, for further action in accordance with the rules of that media.
