At today’s annual Assembly of the Media Council for Self-Regulation, several issues regarding the work and activities of this body were discussed. The focus was on applications for new membership. After a detailed review of all submitted requests, the Assembly of this media organization decided to grant full membership to 32 media outlets.
The increased interest of media outlets in self-regulation was welcomed, which is primarily a result of recent amendments to the Media Law. At the same time, it was emphasized that a larger number of members will certainly contribute more to the development of professional and ethical standards in our country. Following this latest expansion, the Media Council for Self-Regulation now has a total of 49 members.
The Assembly also specially welcomed the information that next year the Media Council for Self-Regulation will host the annual meeting of all European self-regulatory bodies. As it is the only association in the world that brings together press councils, regular participants in these meetings also include self-regulatory bodies from countries outside our continent. In this sense, the upcoming gathering will also have an international dimension. It was assessed that this international conference can further contribute to promoting and strengthening self-regulation in our country.
Today, the Board of Directors was supplemented with new members with a four-year mandate, and the Executive Secretary of the organization was entrusted with another term to lead this media organization.
