Board Meeting of the Media Council for Self-Regulation

The Board of the Media Self-Regulation Council held its second meeting of the year on June 28. A wide range of topics concerning the ongoing work of the organization were discussed.

Special attention was given to the adoption of the new Media Law and its upcoming implementation. In this context, the future funding of self-regulation was thoroughly analyzed, as well as the new requirement from the law stipulating that media outlets not part of any self-regulation system will not have access to the Media Pluralism Fund.

The Executive Secretary of the organization, Ranko Vujović, informed attendees about preparations for amendments to the current Journalists’ Code. Work on this document is expected to begin shortly. Collaboration with the Ethical Journalism Network in London and ways to further enhance this partnership were also discussed.

The Board received detailed information on activities carried out during the year, with special emphasis on three publications issued by the Media Self-Regulation Council:

  • The Right to Be Forgotten in the Montenegrin Media Space, authored by representatives of self-regulatory bodies.
  • UNESCO studies translated and published by MSS: Digital Platform Governance and Handbook for Journalism Educators – Reporting on Artificial Intelligence.
